The Three Sisters

As part of a large engineering firm that is Ranked #4 in the nation for Bridges, our LiDAR Center of Excellence is afforded amazing opportunities to collaborate on Signature projects and drive innovation at a national level.

The Three Sisters Bridges in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, also known as the Roberto Clemente (Sixth Street), the Andy Warhol (Seventh Street), and the Rachel Carson (Ninth Street) Bridges, Rehabilitation Project is featured in the latest issue of Roads and Bridges, the industry resource for the road and bridge construction market.

The Three Sisters Bridges make up the only trio of identical, side-by-side bridges in the world and are the first self-anchored suspension bridges constructed in the United States. Michael Baker International provided preliminary engineering, final design and construction-phase services for the rehabilitation of each of the 90-year old historic bridges – owned and maintained by Allegheny County. The team approached the rehabilitation of each structure separately as each had its own needs and posed its own challenges. The designers combined recognition of historical significance with modern engineering practices to complete a structurally superior, sustainable rehabilitation project.
